Opeth is a heavy metal band from Sweden, formed in 1990. They are generally described as a progressive metal band, but it really is not very easy to put them in a single genre. The reason for this is simply that their music is so diverse and unique it's hard to describe their style with a single genre. They are mostly influenced by progressive rock bands such as Genesis, Camel, Yes, King Crimson and many more, but also incorporate jazz and blues influences into their playing, and some death metal influences, more prominently in their more early work. Their influences also include heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Death, to name a few.
Over the years, they have released 12 amazing studio albums. The latest is Sorceress, released in 2016, and their first album, Orchid, was released in 1995. There is not one single song by them that I don't like, but some of my favorites include To Bid You Farewell, Burden, Harvest, Bleak, Black Rose Immortal, Porcelain Heart, In My Time of Need and The Grand Conjuration, among many others. Every song released by them is a masterpiece in its own right.
